Wijn of Water
The temporary terrace restaurant ‘Wijn of Water’(end 2006 removal to definitive location) has been built according to the following wishes of the commisioner: terrace location next to the river; use of marine containers; small budget and short building time available; target group higher educated, multi-culturally artistically public; place for ca. 50 people with a mediterranean menu.
For the design nine second-hand, ‘40 foots' containers (12.2 by 2.5 by 2.9 meters) have been used as building component. Because of the limited internal height all installation channels are grouped in metal pipes on the roof. There is a deliberate contrast between the closed, higher city side, and the view and light at the riverside. The standing container provides a landmark, en the L-shape provides shelter against westwind. Three types of perforation are used to connect the containers and to provide light: big holes for public space in the long sides of the container, square windows in the top ends, and small windows for staff (kitchen, office).
