DVĚ PŘEDNÁŠKY O ARCHITEKTUŘEArchitectural production and discussion in Belgium 1991-2008Architect Gaston Eysswlinck (1907-1953) An uknown modernist5. června 2008Přednášková místnost A118v 11:00Fakulta architektury VUT v BrněThe actual architectural production and discussion in Belgium 1991 tot 2008.The starting point of the lecture is the first international presentation during the Venice Biennale of Architecture 1991 with work of Stéphane Beel, Xaveer De Geyter, Luc Deleu, bOb Van Reeth, Robbrecht & Daem, Marie-José Van Hee, Eugeen Liebaut and Christian Kieckens. I created this exhibition as a curator. These architects were able to profile themselves after this exhibition with some interesting works. The most important project is without a doubt the Concert Building in Bruges by Robbrecht & Daem Architects. In the beginning of 2000, a “curator of buildings” (Bouwmeester) was appointed in Flanders. This is an architect who is responsible for the control of quality of the new governmental buildings. Thanks to his influence, many interesting projects could be established. Architect Gaston Eysselinck (1907-1953) An unknown modernistGaston Eysselinck (1907-1953) is a fascinating individual of the Belgian avant-garde architecture. Masterpieces like his own house in Ghent (1930-1931) and the building of the Post and Telegraphic Office in Ostend (1945-1952) are highlights in the Belgian architecture of the 20ieth century. When he was only 23 years old he built an exceptional corner house in Ghent; a house that links up with the examples of the 'International Style' in Europe. For his house he created tubular steel furniture in 1932, now part of the collection of the Design museum in Ghent. This lecture will situate the architect in reference with Holland and other Belgian modernist as Louis-Herman De Koninck, Huib Hoste and Victor Bourgeois.Marc Dubois (*1950)Professor Department Architecture Sint-Lucas Ghent & Brussels.
